Why this exists
What it does
Choose deferred revenue (prepaid by a customer) or a prepaid expense (paid up front by you), pick the customer or supplier, enter the total, the start date and the number of months.
"Record the upfront cash now" writes the opening entry for the whole amount. Untick it when that cash was already entered somewhere else, so it is never counted twice.
A nightly job posts each month’s entry into the general ledger. Recognize due catches up anything waiting, so a schedule six months behind posts six entries from one press.
The Recognized column shows how much of the total has been recognised to date, with a bar, and a schedule completes itself when it reaches the total.
The honest part
The part you would otherwise find out in week three. If one of these is central to how you work, raise it before you buy rather than after.
Questions
No. A nightly job posts each month for you. Recognize due is there to catch up, not something you have to remember.
It is gone for good, and the entries it already posted stay in the ledger, because those months really happened and removing them would change accounts you have already reported on.
Yes. Choose "Prepaid expense" for something you paid up front, such as a year of insurance, and the cost is spread across the months in the same way.
