Why this exists
What it does
Products & Services holds each item with default accounts, pricing and tax, reused on invoices, bills and subscriptions.
Mark a product as tracked. Buying it on a bill brings it in, selling it on an invoice takes it out, and cost is weighted average.
A stock count, breakage or write-off is an adjustment with a quantity, a unit cost and a reason stored with the movement, so a count that does not match carries its explanation.
Inventory shows on-hand quantity, average cost and value per item, by company when you run more than one, and the valuation posts to the general ledger.
Products overview shows active items, what you sold, your stock value, items out of stock, items at or below their Reorder at level, your best sellers and the items that did not sell.
The honest part
The part you would otherwise find out in week three. If one of these is central to how you work, raise it before you buy rather than after.
Questions
Only for things that are not a purchase or a sale. Buying a tracked item on a bill and selling it on an invoice move the stock by themselves.
Yes. A service lives in the same catalogue and appears on invoices, but it is not tracked, because a service needs no stock.
Set a Reorder at level on a product and Products overview counts it as low stock once it has stock left at or below that level.
