Chief sees what you see, and shows its work

Chief knows which page you are on. Ask “how is this client doing?” with a client open, “chase these” with invoices ticked in the list, or “what needs my attention here?” on any page, and Chief works on exactly that without you naming it. The line above the Chief box says what it can see, for example “Chief can see: Invoices”.

• What it seesThe page you are on, the record you have open, rows you have ticked in a list, what is typed in the list’s search box, the headings and first rows of the table on screen, and the fields of a form you have open.
• What it never seesPasswords, card numbers, bank account and routing numbers, keys, tokens, connection strings, one-time codes, hidden fields and file uploads are never read, whatever the page, and forms on the pages that hold keys and secrets are not read at all. Nothing about your screen is stored; it goes with your message and is gone.
• It only sees what you can seeChief looks up the open record itself, through your own access. A record you cannot open is described to Chief only as “a record you cannot read”, never by name.
• Text written by outsiders stays informationOn pages that show what people outside your workspace wrote (the inbox, leads, support tickets, form answers), Chief treats that text as information, never as instructions, and anything it would change on that turn waits for your yes.
• Turn it offPress Turn off on that line and Chief stops looking at the page, on this browser, until you turn it back on.

While Chief works, the panel lists each step as it happens (for example “Checking overdue invoices” or “Looking up Acme”) with a Stop button. Stop halts it before its next step, including a form it was about to fill on the next page: anything already done stays done. After the answer, the steps fold into one line you can open again. Answers now appear word by word as Chief writes them, and they start sooner.
